Let's celebrate Architecture Day together!
The Department of Architecture in the College of Design at Iowa State University is flourishing. This fall, we saw a record enrollment of 146 students in our second-year cohort, and 12 architecture faculty displayed work in the Vernon Stone faculty exhibition, the first faculty exhibition in many years. But the success of our program would not be possible without student engagement through classes, competitions, travel, and activities.
With the generous support of our many donors, the department is able to help fund many of these opportunities for our students. Recently, we've helped a fifth-year studio travel to Peru, and we sent our NOMAS student leaders to the annual conference. The department also covered the cost of course field trips for 18 students who wouldn't have been able to participate without financial support.
These hands-on experiences are life-changing for Iowa State architecture students.

“Going to Rome was my top priority when choosing Iowa State University. It is one thing to study architecture from a textbook, and another to stand under the dome of the Pantheon, walk the engineered streets of Pompeii, and experience the perspective play of Palladio. When I got to Rome, I was in awe of the ancient intricate stone buildings and the mind-bending evidence of the passage of time. Every week, we studied buildings in lectures, then visited and drew the spaces ourselves. I had high expectations for the Rome semester, and it far exceeded my expectations.”
